The OBRA members met for the annual Christmas dinner on Dec 5, 2002 at the Black Pelican. There were 35 members in attendance and the space provided by the Black Pelican was wonderful. The only piece of business discussed was the election of new officers and the only change was the addition of Jim Bailey N4ACT as treasurer. Thanks to our president, W2EHD, for his work in finding a place to have this years event. Pictures are going to be added to the website as I receive them under the Pictures link from the front page.

The Nov 2002 special meeting of the new area Hams was held at Slammin' Sammy's Nov 21. 26 members attended the event, 5 were newly "hamed". Pictures of them and the event can be seen on the Pictures webpage - here.

It was announced that the Dec 5, 2002 Xmas meeting will be held at The Black Pelican and NOT Clara's. It seems The Pelican wants our business more than Clara's and so why not support those that support us? See the calendar for more details or watch your email, make sure W2EHD has it on file.

WELCOME to the areas newest HAMs. Below are some of the new radio operators for our area. I would urge them all to go visit www.qrz.com and add their email address and other data they want displayed under their call signs. QRZ.com will have the information from the FCC in a few days.
Congradulations to all, we look forward to hearing you on the airwaves and seeing you at the Nov 21 meeting (info below).

Upcoming events

There will be a meeting at Slammin Sammy's on Nov 21, 2002 at 5:30pm to welcome the new hams that passed their test (see announcement below) and we plan to have radios, antennas, Ht's, and more to let these new hams see what we use and to give them ideas on what equipment they might want to purchase for themselves. We will need members to bring some "Show & Tell" equipment and hopefully the new hams will have been issued their new call signs and they can test some of the radios. It will be a fun time - plan to come. Mark your calender - or visit ours - here

Also plan to come to the December meeting at The Black Pelican. There will be about 3 min of business followed by fun stuff. Dec 5 - 6pm.

OBRA had it's yearly election meeting to elect the officers for 2003. It was a nice turnout with 20+ members attending. The nominating committee put forth the same officers that are currently serving with the exception of treasurer, Jay Wolf has too much on his plate and stepped down. Jim Bailey N4ACT was nominated to replace him. The list was voted on and approved unanimously. Thanks to all that serve. Then the group went outside to view the Space Station passing over and 4 min later the Shuttle passed over.
A list of satillites overhead can be seen here.
